Hi 9Tees girls,

We have a rhythm to our play each month and here it is:

1st Thursday:   Keep Putts

2nd Thursday:  Regular Play

3rd Thursday:   Match vs. Par

4th Thursday:   Regular Play

Four times a year we have a 5th Thursday.  That’s a great time to do something extra and out of  our regular routine.  This year those months are January, May, July, and October.  On January 30 at 8:30, Hunter led us in a complementary 20-minute chipping lesson.  We all enjoyed his coaching, and we got a lot out of the lesson.  Our next 5th Thursday will be in May.  Because the Senior Men’s Invitational is on our regular Thursday play day Hunter will host our putting lesson at 8:30 on Wednesday, May 28 followed by our regular play with shotgun at 9.

In July we will be playing our own internal Horse Race complete with wagers and cash prizes for the top three teams: Win, Place and Show.  If you decide you like the format, you can then sign up for the Del Rio Couples’ Horse Race to be played on Friday, August 8.

If Horse Races are new to you, here is a basic explanation of how they work.  A team is a group of 2 people (horses).  The player with the highest handicap is matched with the player with the lowest handicap.  This continues until all players are matched.  The play is alternate shot.  The team decides who will drive the ball on the first hole, then it’s alternate shot from then on.  All teams play the first two holes and then eliminations start.  The eliminated teams then become the gallery.  The game and the eliminations continue until there are just 3 teams left.

The last two holes played determine the 3rd place team and then the second and first-place team.  It’s super fun, sometimes stressful and really worth the experience.  We’ll head to lunch and Hunter will distribute the winnings to the Win, Place, and Show teams and to the individuals who wagered and picked the winning teams.  Ask me about the money if you’re not sure how that all works.

We plan to play another Horse Race in October.  We will be seasoned players by then!

Please reach out if there is anything you feel we can be doing as a group to help you enjoy your game and the club even more.

Happy Golfing Ladies!
